ỌKÀN Movement

Ọkàn is a transformative movement practice, that combines conscious movement techniques, free-flow dance, visualisation and meditations set with sacred intention, journeying to the sound of world music and shamanic rhythms.

Trust the Body to Lead

Trusting the body in conscious movement is crucial as it holds innate wisdom. By listening to its cues, we unlock deeper self-awareness and healing. Letting go of judgments, we move authentically, fostering self-discovery and holistic well-being. The body becomes a faithful guide on our transformative journey.

Connect to Tribe

The principle of community or tribe in Ọkàn extends beyond the dancefloor, encompassing a global tribe of all beings. This inclusive connection honours diverse perspectives, and collective wisdom,  fostering a transformative journey of self-love, integration, and universal interconnectedness.

Connect Breath to Movement

The breath inspires movement by bridging mind and body. Conscious breathing techniques calm the mind, increase focus, and energize the body. Synchronized with movement, it cultivates mindfulness and presence, guiding rhythm and intensity. This connection fosters embodiment, fluidity, and expression, harmonizing mind, body, and spirit.

Move with Spirit

Connecting to spirit in movement imbues the practice with intention, meaning, and transcendence, deepening our self-awareness, spiritual growth, and alignment with our true essence. It allows us to invoke our guides, honor our ancestors, and move in harmony with their wisdom.

Release Thoughts into Movement

Releasing thoughts into movement facilitates emotional expression and mental clarity. Through physical action, we alleviate mental tension, promote emotional release, and deepen the mind-body connection. This process fosters self-expression, introspection, and a sense of liberation.

SACRED SPACE

"Ceremony brings the sacred into the ordinary life" Sandra Ingerman"

Within each Okan gathering, a sacred space is first created, this simply means a space where the seed of intention can be fed and nurtured.  In Okan the use of an altar is not tied to any religion but instead set as a visual reminder for individuals to access the highest versions of themselves, whether that be an internal or external guiding force.
